“Our families have owned this site for three generations, we now want to build something in memory of their initial dream.”
background
The land, located on the settlement boundary of Sowerby Bridge and Luddenden Foot, is an existing Greenbelt site, a wildlife corridor and labelled as potentially unstable land.
The site, with all its labels, can seem somewhat daunting. We see it as an opportunity to create meaningful and respectful architecture that tells the story of the site, from its former factory land days to stables to a nearly forgotten dream of Grandparents.
The proposed bungalows are designed to reflect the silhouette of a factory, nestled within the site’s natural landscape.
The challenge of this project is to design two homes of outstanding architectural merit, that is sympathetic enough to the surrounding area, that it justifies the slight reduction of protected Greenbelt land it is to sit within,.. A true Place for Humans.
